Print and fold a sheet of standard office printing paper to
make your own miniature My Face Sketch Book.

In the My Face Sketch Book we concentrate on one facial feature at a time. Because we are forced to look more carefully at each eye, the nose, mouth, chin, and hair, our observation is increased

Studying one facial feature at a time reduces any anxiety we might have about trying to get all the facial elements correct and in proportion to one another. This makes it easier to finally sketch the whole face.

Sit at a table with a mirror in front of you and sketch.
Don’t worry about scale, just look really hard at the face you are drawing.
It's OK if the eyes are larger than the nose.

Your own face or a live model is best,
but you can also work from a photo. Although ink pens work easily for hair,
it is difficult to render soft skin tones with
black ink hatches, so you may want to use brown ink,
watercolor pencils, or tinted washes when modeling the face.
